L'Heure Bleue

The blue hour is the moment before dawn when the night has not yet surrendered. The album lives entirely inside one such night: it opens with an evening greeting and closes with a morning one, and everything that matters happens in between.

Five songs. One night. One Paris.

  1. EnchantéeMinuit
The band tunes, the lights drop, and a woman nobody can place walks in with the midnight rain. She picks the song, he buys the wine, and when he asks her name she offers something better: a dance that was written before he arrived. Her advice to him is simple. Don't fall in love. And if you do, kiss her twice.
  2. ReviensDeux heures
An apartment with the rain still on the windows. The record spins, the brandy is poured, and two people who once knew each other by heart pretend midnight can be stretched. This is the album's plea: stay until the streetlights fade, keep every promise we never made. He whispers "à demain". They both know she won't be there.
  3. Peut-êtreCinq heures
The blue hour. Her coat is on, one hand rests on the door, one shoe is still somewhere by the bed. Half of her is down the stairs and half is tangled in his sleep-talk, which sounded a lot like "stay". She flips a coin for the answer. It rolls across the floor and never lands. The album never says which way it fell.
  4. AdieuAvant l'aube
The candle has drowned in its own gold and she finds her dress in the dark. No note, no name, no looking back. He will reach for her at half past four and find the cold side of the bed, and the barman will later tell him what barmen always tell such men. Her perfume on his coat is all she ever lets him own.
  5. LumièreLe matin
Morning spills on the Seine and washes midnight off the stones. She walks home slowly, heels singing, last night folded in her coat like a letter she may never send. The waiter pours her coffee and asks her nothing, bless him. Not sorry, not sad. Bonjour, Paris.
